Famous pens: Silvio Pellico

Of the writer, poet and patriot Silvio Pellico (Saluzzo 1789 - Turin 1854) The historical library of Palazzo Cisterna owns letters in the archival funds (mostly Baruffi, Manno and Lettere autografe), and some precious editions of his works.

There is the original edition of the tragedy Francesca da Rimini (Milano 1818), with the prose version of Byron's Manfred, and the two original editions of Le mie prigioni, the italian one (Turin 1832; specimen belonged to marquis Carron di San Tommaso) and the french one (Mes prisons, Paris 1833), with a signed letter dedicated to marquis Henriette de Saint-Thomas, dated 22th of November 1832.

Other valuable materials are the Poesie inedite di Silvio Pellico (Turin 1837), with signatured dedication to the marquis Felice di San Tommaso, and an other french edition of Mes prisons (Paris 1843), with boards by Tony Johannot, illustrator of the Don Chisciotte and of Balzac's, George Sand's, Victor Hugo's, Eugène Sue's and Alfred de Vigny's novels, appeared between 1830 and 1835.

The Memorie witnesses the period of life in which Pellico, coming from the prisony in Spielberg, spent serving the marquis of Barolo as secretary and librarian, published after his death in Turin in 1864 with the title La marchesa Giulia di Barolo nata Colbert.
