A substantial documentation regarding the village of Corveglia, a fief owned by the Bishop's Table of Asti, and the village of Villanova is the most important series of the Bosio Fund of Asti. These are papers collected by the canon Antonio Bosio (1811-1880), Rosminian intellectual and scholar of subalpine history, chronologically collected from the mid-fifteenth century.
There are documents that testify to the quarrel between Villanova and Corveglia, on which Villanova had rights, and many investitures, concerning the fief of Corveglia in particular, granted by the bishops of Asti to the lords of the area. Some beautiful parchments concerning acts of sale (1461-1477) are in Gothic characters and refer to the Roero family of Monteu.
The most curious document is an excerpt from the poem De origine Villenove... de ejus vita et varietate fortunae by the poet Antonio Astesano (1412-1463), written in easily understandable Latin couplets. The poem, on the origin of Villanova, is taken from the work of Astesano published in the series Rarum italicarum scriptores published by Muratori. Antonio Astesano was one of the protagonists of Piedmontese humanism, his greatest work is the Carmen de varietate fortunae, sive de vita et gestis civium astensium, a story in poetry of the city of Asti from its foundation to 1339.
The Bosio Fund is completed by a register of protocols of the notary Stefano Mondo di Montegrosso, referring to acts signed from 1598 to 1602, important for the knowledge of the local economy and the genealogy of the families mentioned.
